MINNEHAHA COUNTY JAIL
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Minnehaha County Jail shall provide safe, secure housing of
inmates and continued public safety. The jail will:
Operate in accordance with the US Constitution, Federal and
State laws, under the direction of the Sheriff.
Operate in a cost effective manner, without compromising
the safety and security of staff, inmates, and visitors.
Not discriminate against staff, visitors, or inmates because
of race, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability while
providing the ability to maintain family ties and community
contacts.
Provide inmates with necessary and legally required medical,
mental health, and dental services consistent with the
standards for health services established by the National
Commission on Correctional Health Care and American
Corrections Association.
Maintain those in custody in a safe and humane manner until
legally released.
Provide a detailed explanation of the facility rules and hold
all individuals accountable for their behavior.
Provide a range of programs and services to reduce idleness
and to encourage inmates to improve themselves to reduce
further criminal activity.
Provide staff with initial and ongoing training in order
to provide professional development in accordance to the
American Corrections Association.
